Even More Gifts that Give Back and the CSR Business Values Behind Them

Over the past few weeks we’ve been exploring the trend towards socially conscious consumerism with a series about gifts that give back and the CSR business values behind them. Socially conscious consumerism is a trend where customers are demanding more from the companies they support with their hard earned dollars. In fact, they are looking for companies that share their values through transparent CSR initiatives that are built into its business model. So far we’ve looked at TOMS MarketplaceAmazonSmileRoma BootsTOMS EyewearWarby ParkerMoraleyesBOBS by SkechersKiteSOMBFreewaters, eBay Giving Works, Songs for the Philippines, Better World Books and today I’m writing about a few more.

  • even-more-gifts-that-give-backOne World Futbol Project – With Chevrolet as the founding sponsor their goal is to give away 1.5 million balls in three years. The One World futbol is “a nearly indestructible ball that never needs a pump and never goes flat—even when punctured multiple times.” World-renowned entertainer Sting provided the initial funding to do the research and development for a prototype and in recognition of Sting’s support, the name of the ball and the Company are based on the song “One World (Not Three),” written by Sting. Following the “One for One” concept, whenever a futbol is purchased they give one to a youth in a disadvantaged community worldwide. Their featured sponsors are TOMS Marketplace and Project Active and featured partners include Designed to Move, LA Galaxy Foundation, YMCA, Save the Children, Coaches Across Continents, IRD and the Jack Brewer Foundation.
  • Twice as Warm – They are an apparel company that makes gloves, scarfs, hats, as well as women’s, men’s and children’s items. Once again this is an example of a company building on the one for one model as for every item purchased they will give a new clothing item to someone in need. “Spreading warmth, love and care to those in need, that’s what Twice As Warm is all about.
  • Hand in Hand – A fair trade, cruelty free, palm oil free sustainable soap company that sells soap, bath salts, candles and even holiday cards. They have also adopted the one for one model as for every bar purchased, Hand in Hand will donate a bar to save a child’s life. In fact they “have donated over 100,000 bars of soap to children in Port-au-Prince Haiti through [this program] and have put in a well to provide clean water to over 240 families each and every day for a decade.” Additionally, “all Hand in Hand soap is shipped using eco-friendly packaging, comes with a free carbon offset, and a portion of all proceeds is used to save 50 square feet of rainforest for every bar sold.
  • KUTOA – The brand’s name means “to give” in Swahili and was started in 2009 by Joey Grassia. KUTOA makes handcrafted, small batch health bars from natural, non-GMO ingredients. The full-sized bars come in blueberry almond, cherry cashew, chocolate banana, peanut butter and jelly. They also have kid’s squares which come in apple cinnamon, peanut butter and jelly, and strawberry shortcake. They are using the one for one model as they give a bar to a child in need for every bar purchased. KUTOA helps children both domestically and internationally with the help of partners like WFP, Foundation Communities and Covenant House.

By giving one of these gifts at the holidays, or any time of the year, you’re making a lasting impact on the world. Plus you may also be opening someone else’s eyes to buying great products that do more.

Happy holidays!
