Tim Hortons Local Earn-a-Bike Outreach Program and other CSR Business News

We have previously written about Tim Hortons’ various CSR Business initiatives such as their in-store environmental efforts, their first published CSR report as well as our series on their local outreach programs. Their local outreach programs are geared to give-back and enrich the communities in which they do business. We have covered their free summer swimming and Timbits Minor Hockey Programs and we continue that series today with their Earn-a-Bike Program.

“The Tim Hortons Earn-a-Bike program is a community-oriented sponsorship program where children between 10 and 14 years old team up with community partners to help clean up their local streets, parks and schools. Each participant completes 30 hours of community service and is rewarded with their very own Tim Hortons Minelli-Leader mountain bike and Bell helmet, courtesy of their local Tim Hortons restaurant owner.”

This is a mutually beneficial program as children are helping out their community and earning something in return that they may not be able to afford otherwise. “Children are selected from organizations such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters and by their local police department who also co-ordinate the program and provide supervision while the kids are out doing their part to make their community a cleaner, brighter place to live.”

This is a remarkable program for many reasons. For one, it is helping a younger generation forge strong ties with their community and it gives them a sense of accomplishment and pride that they are making a difference. Beyond what the program is providing to the children, it is also about bettering the local environment.  It demonstrates that in order to reside in a community you need to get involved and take responsibility – if you want to see change, help make it happen.

We here at Miratel commend Tim Hortons for putting together another innovative local CSR business outreach program that positively impacts the lives of children, the local communities and the environment. Next week we will continue this series by exploring their Litter Awareness Program.
