10 Best Cities to Live for Opportunity

Today, I’ll be adding the 10 best cities to live for opportunity according to the 5th edition of PwC’s Cities of Opportunity: Building the Future report that “tracks the performance of 27 of the world’s key urban centers.”

The purpose of the report “is twofold: to take a “snapshot” of the current state of infrastructure in our 27 Cities of Opportunity while, at the same time, moving forward and projecting the infrastructure needs of these cities a dozen years into the future, in 2025.” PwC worked in conjunction with project economists of Oxford Economics to put together Cities of Opportunity: Building the future.

They used ten indicators: city gateway, cost, ease of doing business, transport and infrastructure, demographics and livability, health, safety and security, intellectual capital and innovation, sustainability and natural environment, technological readiness and economic clout. These factors give an in-depth look at opportunity in the current economic climate and based on this data, the 10 best cities to live for opportunity are:

1. Stockholm, Sweden – GDP: $88, 874. Population: 869,055
2. Sydney, Australia – GDP: $68,770. Population: 4,475,822
3. Toronto, Canada – GDP: $56, 341. Population: 2,833,287
4. Paris, France – GDP: $103,779. Population: 2,2,65,648
5. London, United Kingdom – GDP: $53,408. Population: 7,969,341
6. San Francisco, United States – GDP: $118,218. Population: 814,644
7. New York, United States – GDP: $87,061. Population: 8,408,519
8. Chicago, United States – GDP: $64,017. Population: 2,647,094
9. Tokyo, Japan – GDP: $43,285. Population: 13,024,836
10. Berlin, Germany – GDP: $32,884. Population: 3,473,836

So Toronto was the only Canadian city to make the PwC’s Cities of Opportunity: Building the Future report, let alone the top 10. Pretty cool and we can still be so much better. Very cool indeed.
