5 Best ‘social media for nonprofit fundraising’ Blog Posts of 2014

As the year draws nearer to its close we continue our look back at the most popular posts here on the Miratel blog throughout 2014. Today brings part four of that series following up on our recent summaries of the best ‘nonprofit reports‘, the ‘best of lists‘ and ‘Meatless Mondays‘ from the entire year. Today we move on the five most popular posts about using social media for nonprofit fundraising, so let’s move directly on to those.

  1. 5 Communication Trends in Nonprofit Fundraising According to Report – An interesting read courtesy of data provided by the Nonprofit Communications Trend Report. The report showed that the right blend of planning and focus in tandem with a structured approach to working within a budget were all important factors. I’d wholeheartedly agree with that and as importantly, perhaps underpinning all online communication is developing a winning strategy around the type of content and frequency to be employed which is also covered within the post.
  2. New ‘give app’ set to change online fundraising for nonprofits – We wrote this piece back in August and I’ve yet to revisit the how the initial success of the ‘Give App’ is going but the potential was clear to see. We were excited as the Give App comes fully loaded and aligned with both GuideStar and Network for Good tools which help to provide widespread coverage for the whole charity sector. I think that the lack of fees, ease of use plus such broad coverage appeal should see the app take off very successfully in 2015.
  3. 5 things nonprofits can learn from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge – Last summer the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge quickly went from a small video campaign for nonprofit fundraising to the largest viral donation buzz of 2014, if not for years. In fact the causes concerned raised over $110 million in a few short months easily outdistancing their typical yearly results. The challenge was the perfect marriage of fun and worthy and sparked videos that dominated social media for more than two months during the summer, our post reviewed some of the lessons that charities can learn from the challenge.
  4. 5 easy steps to heighten your nonprofit’s LinkedIn profile appeal to donors and others – In September we wrote an overview of easy steps to improve your LinkedIn profile to better appeal to your donor audience and others. LinkedIn continues to evolve and has now developed into a platform where a nonprofit can network and share exactly where they are heading and engage potential donors and other online ambassadors. We also feel that for peer-to-peer and even organization-to-organization networking few platforms have the same potential of active LinkedIn groups.
  5. Crowdfunding success for nonprofit fundraising via Indiegogo? – Indiegogo continues to grow as one of the largest crowdsourcing/crowdraising vehicles for fundraising in general. We’re also seeing a growing tendency for the tool to be used by nonprofits especially when compared with how it was being used just twelve to eighteen months earlier. Our post explores some of the initial questions you’ll have if considering the tool and will help you decide whether it might be the event fundraising tool for you.
