Today I’ll be adding to this list with the 10 most reputable companies based on the 2013 – Global RepTrak 100 – The World’s Most Reputable Companies report published the Reputation Institute (RI).

RI is the world’s leading reputation management consultant and has been measuring a cross-section of reputations since 1999. To compile the data for this report, RI measured “the reputation of the 100 most highly regarded companies across 15 countries covering more than 75% of the global GDP, including: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Spain, UK and US. More than 55.000 consumers  of the general public rated a maximum of five randomly assigned companies that they were somewhat or very familiar with using Reputation Institute’s RepTrak® Pulse methodology.” Those surveyed were asked their opinion based on four drivers: admire, trust, feeling, and esteem. Those were further broken down into seven key dimensions: products / services, innovation, workplace, governance, citizenship, leadership, and financial performance. According to RI’s methodology, the 10 most reputable companies are:

  1. Most-Reputable-Companies 2013-Global-RepTrakBMW – Score: 78.39. BMW was able to hold their first place finish for the second straight year.
  2. The Walt Disney Company – Score: 77.76. Disney was able to move up one spot from third place in 2012.
  3. Rolex – Score: 77.23. Rolex was one of two companies new to the top ten this year.
  4. Google – Score: 77.15. Rolex moved up two spaces from the 2012 edition of this list.
  5. Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) – Score: 76.58. Daimler dropped one spot, as they were fourth in 2012.
  6. Sony – Score: 76.30. Sony dropped four spots from their second place finish in 2012.
  7. Microsoft – Score: 76.23. Microsoft held onto to their seventh place position for the second year in a row. It should be noted that 2012 was the first time that Microsoft made the top ten.
  8. Canon – Score: 76.02. Canon moved up one spot as they previously ranked ninth in 2012.
  9. Nestlé – Score: 75.21. 2013 marks the first time that Nestlé has placed in the top ten.
  10. Lego – Score: 75.02. Lego was able to hold onto their tenth place finish for the second year in a row.

As stated in the report, this information can help company executives:

  • “Map the global reputation landscape of the company using a single lens
  • Get a global overview of what drives support from the general public in key markets
  • Create a global KPI system for managing reputation
  • Start a conversation with Senior Leadership about the impact of reputation to your business
  • Create the business case for active reputation management”

A company’s success relies on its reputation as it has a direct impact on their bottom line. People increasingly want to support companies they trust and who are good corporate citizens and this report highlights what some are getting very right.
