Today, we’ll be looking into the 10 best countries in which to retire for Americans according to Forbes’s 20 Best Foreign Retirement Havens for 2015. When compiling this list Forbes’ criteria included “cost of living, taxes, medical care, climate, security and crime, cultural attractions and hospitality, and ease of return to the U.S.”. Based on Forbes’ criteria, the 10 best countries to retire are:

  1. Australia: Stable politics, warm climate and reasonable cost of living helped them make the list.besy countries to retire 2015
  2. Belize: The fact that it is the only South American country with English as their main language helped Belize reach the second spot.
  3. Canada: Proximity to U.S. reasonable health care costs helped earned its third place spot. Drawbacks were the recently tightened retirement immigration laws.
  4. Chile: A stable political system, good climate and affordable health care earned them 4th place. One drawback was the layover many incur when returning to the States.
  5. Colombia: Colombia has shed the unfavorable image it had in the 1980’s and made the list because of its low cost of living and cheap healthcare.
  6. Costa Rica: Scenic beauty, year-round good weather, and a pension plan for foreign retirees make this a great spot to retire.
  7. Croatia: Tax brakes for retirees helps set them apart from others on the list along with a low cost of living and a good climate and it’s a great place to retire. One drawback is that there are no direct flights back to the United States.
  8. Ecuador: The cost of living is less than half of that in the United States, which is one of the things that make this a wonderful place to retire.
  9. France: Inexpensive, high-quality healthcare is one of the major bonuses in addition to the scenery and culture.
  10. Ireland: English being the primary language, and picturesque landscapes helped them land on this list. One drawback is that the cost of living, while lower than before, is still higher than the U.S; however, flights back home are easy to find and affordable.

This is an interesting look at where American’s might be looking to retire in 2015 and beyond and we are not surprised Canada claimed the third spot.
